St. John the Evangelist School
Student Support Team
Philosophy / Mission Statement
As a community of faith dedicated to addressing the needs of the whole child, the administration, faculty and staff at St. John the Evangelist School employ a variety of methodologies for effective developmentally appropriate teaching. We continually strive to take a pro-active approach in order to encourage every child to achieve socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
To this end, a team has been formed to assist teachers, parents, and the students themselves inside and outside of the classroom. This Student Support Team consists of the principal, an educational consultant, faculty members, student case managers along with the consultation services of a school counselor and Archdiocesan Special Education Office.
The purpose and objectives of the Student Support Team are to act as an advocate for the student both in and out of the school environment and to support the teachers, parents and students in meeting the needs of each child. In addition, the Team is responsible for tracking students referred by the teachers, reviewing pre-referral information, and making recommendations and/or scheduling tests as indicated. The Student Support Team will establish and monitor the student support plans generated through in-house recommendations or qualified outside services, assisting teachers and parents in the processes associated with these procedures. Further, the Team will facilitate communication with teachers, parents, consultants, and the student, ensuring fulfillment and documentation of accommodations and services.
